Cosmic Weather: August 2011
Welcome to August!
August begins with a passionate roar, hot on the heels of a Leo New Moon with the Sun and Venus in close conjunction making squares to Jupiter in Taurus on Aug. 1 and Aug. 5 respectively.
There’s a sense of having to take a huge risk and with Jupiter there is always the danger of biting off more than we can chew. But the aspects ask for courage to reach for something we desire while staying grounded in our values.
Venus travels in close conjunction to the Sun all month suggesting there’s gold to be mined. As they move through Leo, relationships are certainly going to be in the spotlight. Expect there to be passion, drama and opportunities for fun, adventure and pleasure in the midst of all the chaos.
But life wouldn’t be life if it were all handed to us on a golden platter and although the opportunities and rewards in front of us are tangible and real, they will require some touch choices and changes. But these need not all be painful, rather this could be a liberating time allowing us to finally let go of old baggage and open our arms to the future.
Mercury will be retrograde through most of August and Mars enters Cancer and triggers the Grand Cross this month completing the transition we’ve been under since about June and in many ways this is bringing us full circle from where we were a year ago but with a better grasp on reality.
This is an opportunity to let go of historical wounding buried as far back as childhood. Pluto in Capricorn speaks of getting to the root of an ancient saga. Mars in opposition in Cancer is heating the energy, bringing emotions to the surface to a boiling transformation point.
On as Aug. 9 Mars squares Uranus in Aries and opposes Pluto in Capricorn on! Aug. 11, 2011 expect situations to come to breakthrough and transformation point. Uranus has been in a square to Pluto for a while now, causing people to awaken to their own power in the face of authority. Mars the ruler of Aries and as it opposes Pluto we are coming to a final confrontation with deep powerful emotions. Avoid power struggles, let go of obsessive emotions and try to flow with this energy in the “present” as much as possible.
Getting back to the pot of gold — the Sun and Venus in Leo are asking us to focus on the love and opportunities in the “now.” Change is inevitable, if we can let go of past hurt, resentment and pain we can begin to recognize the more golden reality staring us in the face. Leo rules the 5th house, and this is the energy calls for spontaneity, courage, creativity and the ability to be vulnerable enough to acknowledge one’s hearts desires.
To understand Leo’s energy it would help to remember, the Sun continues to shine on all creation (without expectation of anything in return) even behind the darkest clouds. It is us who need patience for the storm to pass, and have faith that the Sun will come out and shine again. Understanding Astrology helps us to understand the microcosm of our inner and personal world, as reflected by the macrocosm of the sky, nature and this Universe. Just because there are obstacles to be surmounted, doesn’t mean we deny the passion we feel in our heart or lose faith.
Leo rules creative energy, sexual passion, love, romance, adventure, everything that makes the heart race. What’s most attractive about a Leo is the natural confidence they exude when they feel secure radiating warmth to everyone around them. But to really be able to express one self fearlessly comes with a natural confidence [not arrogance,] (one of Leo’s mos! t attractive qualities.) Leo most represents the energy of being young, in love and feeling invincible and free to chase ones passion. But the years can take their toll, and over time life’s passing heartbreaks build our defenses higher, preventing us from experiencing or reaching for the intimacy we seek, for fear of being rejected or hurt again.
It will take courage to take down the walls but drop the ego, expectations and defenses that isolate you from sharing your warmth. Start with being compassionate towards and loving yourself, or perhaps simply begin with self-acceptance without judgment. Then it’s not about “doing” anything but simply “being” your self and radiating your natural energy, allowing nature to do the rest.
With all the enticing opportunities around, remember all that glitters isn’t gold so keep sight of a personal truth. With Mercury retrograde through the month making three oppositions to Neptune, be in no denial of your desires, or any delusions or projection. Mercury stations retrograde on Aug. 2 in Virgo and will retrograde back through Leo to the point it occupied at the time of the Capricorn Full Moon on July 15, 2011 where it stations direct on Aug. 26, 2011 and things can finally move forward from the point we were at the beginning of the month.
Expect to be re-visiting conversations and negotiations you’ve been having since mid-June. Mercury is currently in Virgo; it made its first opposition to Neptune in Pisces, late last month. It will oppose Neptune two more times on Aug. 8 and Sep. 8, while in Leo in retrograde and direct motion respectively. Neptune retrogrades back into Aquarius on Aug. 4, 2011 for the final time, before it re-enters Pisces on Feb. 3, 2011. Neptune has been in Aquarius since 1998, so look back on this time and the house in your c! hart occupied by this sign to look back on the lessons this has taught you. This has likely been a gradual process of awakening from our dreams, fantasies or illusions, to gain clarity on a soul truth and this is our final chance to learn these lessons.
On Aug. 13, 2011 the Full Moon in Aquarius brings a feeling of casting one’s fate to the wind. An air of detachment would be helpful, simply because the future could turn out to be better than you imagined. The Leo Sun (and Mercury and Venus) trines the North Node in Sagittarius at the time of this Full Moon suggesting we are on the course to our destiny. But life is indeed a journey, not a destination, what matters is your experience of it.
And the planets suggest there can be a deeper experience of love, joy and happiness in the present if we dare to look within for a deeper truth. It may be scary to acknowledge one’s desires but in being honest with ourselves can we find the courage to follow our passion to our future. Mercury, the Sun and Venus meet in a triple conjunction on Aug. 16, 2011 days after the Aquarius Full Moon on Aug 13, 2011. This could be a peak time for re-igniting sparks and passion in a relationship, perhaps reconnecting with a lover.
Be bold, dare to speak and listen with your heart you could re-write history. Creatively as well this energy is hot, and begging for expression so perform your heart out. In financial negotiations too, there is something potential golden in the offing. In all instances watch your ego, pride or false pride getting in the way of progress.
With Mercury retrograde we are re-discovering valuable information about the potential something holds; it’s likely to be ‘old’ contacts that you reconnect with or hold the key or some situation from your past t! hat brings forth the goods. If this is a new connection, by all means enjoy the passion but I would advise caution against getting too attached to an outcome, until Mercury stations direct to truly see what holds water.
By the time Mars squares Saturn on Aug. 25 among other aspects taking place at the time, we will be turning a corner from all that has been so difficult in the recent past – financially as well as within relationships. The key here is finding inner strength and emotional balance, so we can have equal relationships where everyone’s needs are met.
By the end of the month on Aug 28, 2011 we have a very earthy, solid and fertile New Moon in Virgo, with Venus in close conjunction. At this time Venus, the Sun and Moon will form a sold Grand Earth Trine to Pluto in Capricorn and Jupiter in Taurus. Dig deep and nurture what is ! precious within a situation. With a little love and care there! is nothi! ng that can’t be healed, and this can be a profoundly healing and stabilizing New Moon for relationships.
In earth signs this is tangible, material energy so there can be a steady growth in material and financial abundance as well. But the New Moon is in Virgo, so strive to give your personal best rather than focus on perfection or any idea of it. Don’t be afraid to weed out honestly what is not working (in relationships, creative projects or your financial budget) so you can plant new seeds of growth. It is integrity and intention that counts, and what is needed rather than just desired. Something need not be a sacrifice if it strengthens the greater whole.
Also there is an element of hard work and dedication needed if we want to really reap the benefits of this energy. Earth signs can get ‘stuck’ in their patterns. It will require con! scious effort to break through inertia, but a little dedicated effort will go a long way to bringing fruition. Also Mercury will be direct on Aug. 26, 2011 so we can finally start moving forward with a solid understanding of the creative fertile potential of reality before us. Look at something with new eyes and you can find a creative solution or way forward that really works.
All in all August seems to be a month not without its challenges, or risks but the rewards are just as sweet and every bit worth it. Indeed this is the month when we can finally turn a corner from all that has been so difficult leading us down the path towards a more stable, prosperous future.
